We at qutools are excited about quantum physics and we want to share this fascination with you. The purpose of our activity is to enable the better understanding of quantum physics, on one hand, and advancing technology through this understanding, on the other hand.
That is why we focus on innovation, while addressing the needs in your lab. We want you to be able to concentrate on your research, not on the measurement tools. With our knowledge of the technology, the hardware and the software needed to perform your type of experiment, together we will find the best solution to facilitate your research and we will tailor it to your needs.
We are convinced of all of our products – and our costumers rely on our long-term development competences, our understanding of science and honest consultation on highest level. All products can be customized as we always focus on optimizing the device for your application. We have special experience and know-how in the following fields.
In 2005 qutools started building demonstrators for entangled photons, fiber optics and single photon sources. Since then we gained further experience on many fields like interferometric length measurements, color centers in diamond, quantum dots or fluorescence spectroscopy.
Our competence in analogue- and mixed-signal-electronics enables ultra-fast time measurements on the picosecond scale. Moreover, individual interfaces and ports can be realized on demand.
We provide and develop software for data collection and analysis as well as the GUI for all operating systems. Even atomic force microscopes can be controlled via tablet app.
More than 15 years of experience in programming logic for algorithmic, control technology and analysis in ultra-fast time detection, microscopy and interferometry.
Our designers created designs ranging from simple mirror mounts up to complex mechanics of movable components. We use those for all of our products.
The production and assembly of high-quality parts is done in-house. Drilling and cutting of aluminum, steel, non-ferrous metals and plastics allows for the realization of all possible designs. The final assembly of optical, electric, mechanical parts and even packing is done at qutools and partners.
qutools and our partners can cover all desired abilities as physicists, developers, designers, electronics- and software-specialists are employed. Our own production completes the portfolio. Therefore, we can do everything from scratch, starting with patents and building prototypes and ending with serial production.

In 2005, Dr. Henning Weier, Prof. Dr. Christian Kurtsiefer and Prof. Dr. Harald Weinfurter from the quantum physics lab at Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich started this company. They wanted to provide “tools” for “quantum physics” – so they named the company qutools.
Having started with developing receiver modules for quantum cryptography, our expertise increases with every challenge that we take on and the ensuing innovation that we uncover. That is how the demonstrator for quantum entanglement quED was born and later transformed into a complete setup for student laboratories, courses and lectures. A similar application suitable for pupils and high-school students and designed primarily for education purposes is the Quantenkoffer.
This initial device already included a time-to-digital converter to correlate two APD signals, so it did not take long until the quTAU came to life, measuring timestamps with a resolution of <100ps and calculating coincidences and correlations. This has finally evolved into our newest baby, quTAG, which is faster and more precise.
