The quEDU is the control unit for all connected experiments and measures their photon output. The ED experiment board for entangled photons is connected to the quEDU via a data cable and two optical fibers.
The quEDU is the control unit for all connected experiments and measures their photon output. The ED experiment board for entangled photons is connected to the quEDU via a data cable and two optical fibers.

The ED is an experiment for the generation and analysis of polarization-entangled photon pairs. A high-power UV diode laser is focused on a nonlinear crystal. By conservation of energy and momentum, some of these pump photons are transformed into a pair of lower energy near-infrared photons.

Different phenomena can be experienced by optical elements such as polarizers. Finally, the infrared photons are coupled into optical fibers and read by the quEDU with its APDs.

This board can be extended by various optical elements, ether by adding to the board or connecting by fiber.

Add-Ons for the quADD-ED

The experiment add-ons are optical tokens or boards extending the functionality of the quADD-ED. Some include software and educational material for experiments.

Inserted Add-Ons in the open beam path on the board.

quADDON-POL Polarizer The quADDON-POL is a motorized polarizer. It is an important add-on for the quADD-ED source board.
quADDON-QWP Quarter-Waveplate This add-on is a motorized quarter-wave plate (QWP).
quADDON-HWP Half-Waveplate This add-on is a motorized half-wave plate (HWP).

External Add-Ons as optical boards connected by fibers.

quADDON-MI Michelson Interferometer This fiber based single photon interferometer consists of a beam splitter, 2 mirrors and 2 glass wedges. One wedge is motorized to change the length in an interferometer arm.
quADDON-QKD Quantum Key Distribution The add-on contains a motorized half-wave plate (HWP), software and firmware to demonstrate the BB84 protocol.
quADDON-TOM Quantum State Tomography This add-on contains two motorized quarter-wave plates (QWP), software and firmware to perform quantum state tomography.
quADDON-HOM Hong-Ou-Mandel This fiber based two photon interferometer includes a beam splitter and software for HOM experiments.
